Josh Allen: 90-yard throw might be a bit of an exaggeration
Josh Allen doesn’t know if he can throw the football quite as far as his personal quarterbacks coach thinks he can. But Ryan Flaherty’s declaration that the Wyoming quarterback can throw it 90 yards isn’t far off, Allen said.
Not that he expects to try.
It’s always been about heart, said Flowers, who weighed 214 and ran a 4.63 in the 40. It’s never about the size. It’s never about how much you weigh. It’s about how much heart you have. I’ve been doubted all my life. I’ve been going through things all my life. I played every position in high school. I’m just a guy who wants to win. I’m destined to win. I’ll do whatever it takes to win.
Flowers said he is open to changing positions at the next level, a question he is hearing from scouts.
I’d say it’s kind of a 50-50 thing. Some teams talk about quarterback. Some teams talk about running back, Flowers said. At the end of the day, I just want to fulfill my dream and be able to give back once I make it.
Smith appeared in 16 regular-season games with 14 starts, but he caught only 36 passes for 430 yards and two touchdowns. He started all three postseason games, generating 157 receiving yards and one touchdown reception, a 41-yard backbreaker in the NFC title game.
Primarily a deep threat, the Eagles would need to replace Smith with a speedster who can stretch the field. Given his total production, however, they may decide that they can fill his role without devoting $5 million to the position.
Still, they’ll need someone who can stretch the field even without catching the ball, an important commodity in an West Coast-style offense that relies on open throwing lanes closer to the line of scrimmage.
The Yankees’ short-term plan is for Ellsbury to start against the Twins in center field, get two at-bats and play about four innings in his first game since March 1. He was 1-for-10 in four games before injuring his right oblique taking BP on March 2.
