This is not the way a team gets to the Super Bowl. But it’s the only way for these Seahawks to get to the Super Bowl, apparently with Russell Wilson running for his life, and still managing to give his team life it otherwise would not have.
By all rights, the Seahawks should be 0-2, the way what passes for an offense is playing so far. Instead, they’re 1-1, barely avoiding an ugly loss to an offensively impotent 49ers team at home Sunday.
Lacy rushed for more than 1,000 yards with the Packers in each of his first two seasons and managed to average more than 4 yards per carry in 2016 and more than 5 in 2016 in limited time. He has scored 23 touchdowns in four seasons including 11 as a rookie, and yet people still seek out ways to body-shame him.
It’s been a struggle for Lacy for four years, but after an ankle injury in 2016 his weight got out of control and he couldn’t do much to stop it. That doesn’t mean he wasn’t working hard, he just couldn’t work out like he wanted. He was 267 pounds when he stepped on the scale in free agency.
In the offseason, Lacy signed a one-year, $5.6 million deal with the Seahawks that had contract incentives that were attached to his weight. Hit this weight, get this much money, etc. The trolls came out in droves again.
You just can’t shake it, he told ESPN. And no matter what, you can’t say nothing back to them. You just have to read it, get mad or however it makes you feel, and move on. I could be 225 and they’d still be like, ‘You’re still a fat piece of s.’
